Wilson Wellness, LLC. operates under the belief that wellness does not only mean being healthy in the sense of absence of disease, or illness, but being healthy in many areas and dimensions of our lives, which can contribute to our overall health and wellbeing. Our framework for our services builds around helping our clients achieve wellness in the following eight dimensions of their lives: emotional, physical, occupational, intellectual, financial, social, environmental, and spiritual wellness. Each of these areas of wellness are interconnected and builds on one another meaning the imbalance one dimension can impact another.

 

We understand that our beliefs, cultures, and individual experiences impact our perceptions, decisions, and how we respond to situations in life within these eight dimensions and impacts our overall life experiences, joy, and fulfillment in our lives. All eight dimensions need attention in our lives for individuals to flourish and thrive. Working towards balancing these eight dimensions can improve  overall wellness and wellbeing.

Eight Dimensions of Wellness & Wellbeing

1. Physical

Physical wellness promotes proper care of our bodies for optimal health and functioning. There are many elements of it that all must be cared for together. Overall, this dimension encourages the balance of physical activity, nutrition, and mental well-being to keep your body in top condition. Obtaining an optimal level of physical wellness allows you to nurture personal responsibility for your own health. As you become conscious of your physical health, you are able to identify elements you are successful in as well as elements you would like to improve. Your body is the vessel that moves you through the world; it’s vital that you treat it with kindness. Participating in physical activity, getting restful sleep and eating healthy foods can reduce your risk of illness, bolster your mood and increase your energy levels, promoting both emotional and physical wellness.

2. Emotional

Emotional wellness is more than feeling happy. In fact, a key part of emotional wellness is accepting that you won’t feel content all — or maybe even most — of the time. By acknowledging your feelings and working through them, you can become more in touch with your inner life and practice emotional wellness.  Emotional wellness inspires self-care, relaxation, stress reduction and the development of inner strength. It is important to be attentive to both positive and negative feelings and be able to understand how to handle these emotions. This also includes the ability to learn and grow from experiences. Emotional well-being encourages autonomy and proper decision-making skills. It is an important part of overall wellness.

3. Financial

Financial Wellness involves the process of learning how to successfully manage financial expenses. Money plays a critical role in our lives and not having enough of it impacts health. Financial stress is repeatedly found to be a common source of stress, anxiety, and fear. Keeping track of expenses, making a budget, and sticking to it are important skills to have in order to be financially responsible and independent. Learning how to maximize your financial wellness now will help you feel prepared to handle potentially stressful financial situations in the future.

4. Intellectual

Intellectual wellness encourages us to engage in creative and mentally-stimulating activities. These activities should expand your knowledge and skills while allowing you to share your knowledge and skills with others. This dimension can be developed through academics, cultural involvement, community involvement and personal hobbies. As it develops, you are able to develop personal resources that work together with the other realms of wellness in order to be achieve a more balanced life.  Whether you realize it or not, you’re always on the lookout for new ways to stimulate and engage your brain. But if you seek out this stimulation without care or consideration, you may find yourself participating in passive activities like scrolling through social media or watching hours of television. While these activities can be satisfying in the moment, they lack the depth and meaning needed for true intellectual wellness. Instead, cultivate your curiosity by engaging in challenging activities that interest you. Learn how to play the piano. Write a short story. Read a book by your favorite author, or scan your local bookstore for something new. Staying open to new ideas, interests and wisdom enriches your days and makes life worth living.

5. Occupational

Occupational wellness inspires us to prepare for work in which we will gain personal satisfaction and find enrichment in our life. Your attitude about work is a crucial influence on occupational development. This allows you to explore various career options and encourages you to pursue the opportunities you enjoy the most. This dimension of wellness recognizes the importance of satisfaction, enrichment, and meaning through work.  Engaging in meaningful work allows you to live out your values. Whether it’s a day job, going to school or volunteering, doing work that you are passionate about can make your life feel more meaningful. Plus, if you do work you love, you’ll have another reason to feel excited when you wake up in the morning.

6. Environmental

Environmental wellness inspires us to live a lifestyle that is respectful of our surroundings. This realm encourages us to live in harmony with the Earth by taking action to protect it. Environmental well-being promotes interaction with nature and your personal environment. Everyone can have a strong environmental conscious simply by raising their awareness.  The environments where you live, work and relax can have a significant impact on your mood and overall well-being. Feel empowered to avoid places or situations where you might be pressured or stressed. Spending time in safe, comfortable spaces is an important part of environmental wellness.

7. Social

Social wellness refers to the relationships we have and how we interact with others. Our relationships can offer support during difficult times. This involves building healthy, nurturing and supportive relationships as well as fostering a genuine connection with those around you. Conscious actions are important in learning how to balance your social life with your personal and professional lives. It also includes balancing the unique needs of romantic relationships with other parts of your life.  We need other people in our lives. Social support is one of the most fundamental human needs. Close friends and family members are there to celebrate the good with you, lament the bad and help you go through life feeling connected and cared for. Because of this, it’s vital that you foster close relationships and make an effort to connect with people to support overall social wellness.

8. Spiritual

Spiritual wellness allows us to be in tune with our spiritual selves. This realm of wellness lets us find meaning in life events and define our individual purpose. It can be defined through various factors including religious faith, values, ethics, and morals. Regardless of whether you believe in a particular religious faith, there is always something to be learned about how you see yourself in the world. Spirituality is the search for personal meaning and purpose. A healthy spiritual life can help you feel more connected to yourself, others and the world around you. If you want to develop a sense of spirituality, it’s important to take part in reflective activities that allow you to understand and practice your values and beliefs. Attend a place of worship, go for a walk, practice yoga or meditation whatever feels right to you. Taking the time to perform these activities on a regular basis can improve your overall wellness, increase your sense of purpose and allow you to better support your spiritual wellness.
